Political Outreach and Third-Party Advocacy

Crosby~Volmer believes that strategic communications are often most effective when the message is delivered by someone else. We call it the "cascade of influence" and it is the science of third-party advocacy. We know how effective third-party advocacy can be in building awareness and driving legislation and policy Capitol Hill and at the state level. Crosby~Volmer works with our clients to hone their third-party message, selects organizations to deliver the message and then ensures that the message is delivered effectively to the audience that needs to hear it.

At Crosby~Volmer we do not directly lobby. In fact we do not have a single registered lobbyist on staff. Associations depend on Crosby~Volmer to use strategic public relations to lay the groundwork to make sure their lobbying efforts are successful.

In the 110th Congress Crosby~Volmer:

  • Arranged over 300 town halls with Members of Congress or key staff in conjunction with our clients.
  • Placed thousands of in-District opinion editorials and articles using association presidents, their members and third-party advocates to help convince Members of Congress to vote for or against legislation.
  • Booked over 8,000 speaking engagements with key businesses and civic organizations in every Congressional District.
  • Held dozens of events to educate Congressional staff on key issues.
  • Recruited hundreds of third-party groups to advocate for or against specific issues.
  • Trained key association members to act as advocates for national issues from a local prospective, transforming fly-ins and lobbying days to year-round in-District efforts.
